Grant County Traffic Citation Courts
The safest rule for Grant County traffic court records is simple: use the court named on the citation. Official research did not find a countywide assignment rule for every issuing agency or every location. New Mexico Courts states that Magistrate Court hears misdemeanor, DWI/DUI, and other traffic violations. Municipal Courts hear petty misdemeanors, DWI/DUI, traffic violations, and ordinance violations. Silver City has adopted the New Mexico Uniform Traffic Code as the Town's Traffic Code, so a Silver City citation may be a municipal court matter rather than a magistrate matter.

Grant County Traffic Record Details
A court traffic record is a case or citation record. It can show the charge as filed, the court date, the plea or response, a finding or disposition, fine and fee obligations, and failure-to-appear events. It does not serve the same purpose as a certified MVD driver history. Case Lookup does not provide downloadable documents, so certified copies and file documents must be requested from the court that holds the traffic case.

Pay or Contest a Grant County Ticket
Payment rules differ by court. Magistrate online payments are accepted for some court-ordered criminal fines and fees through the New Mexico Courts fines and fees site, but not every citation is eligible for online payment. Silver City accepts credit and debit card payments by telephone and accepts all forms of payment at the courthouse. Santa Clara states that court fines and other village fees must be paid only by cash, check, or money order. - If the ticket lists Magistrate Court, call Silver City or Bayard Magistrate Court or use the online fines and fees portal if the case is eligible.
- If the ticket lists a municipal court, contact that municipality because payment methods and appearance rules differ.
- Confirm whether payment counts as a guilty or no-contest resolution before paying.

- Respond on time. Silver City states that failure to respond to a summons may result in a warrant.

Traffic Court Record vs Driver Record
The court traffic record and the MVD driver record answer different questions. The court record tells what happened in the citation case. The MVD driver-history record tells what the state licensing agency has recorded on the driver's license history. A dismissed court ticket may not carry the same licensing effect as a conviction. A driver-history record may show license status, points, suspensions, and convictions but not every court filing or dismissed charge.

Grant County Driver History Records
The MVD online driver-history portal requires personal identifiers and payment. Captured requirements include a credit card, date of birth, last six digits of the Social Security number if on file, a nine-digit driver's license number, email for the receipt, and selection of a non-certified or certified record. That process is for a driver's own state record, not a courthouse citation file.

That portal uses driver identifiers, which is another sign that it is separate from a public traffic case search by citation court.

Subscriber access has compliance rules under DPPA and New Mexico law, so it should not be treated as a public citation lookup tool.
Grant County DWI and CDL Issues
DWI is both traffic-related and criminal. In Grant County, a DWI matter may involve Magistrate Court, Municipal Court, or District Court depending on the filing, charge severity, and case path. Case Lookup has a DWI Search tab, and traffic court records may show DWI hearings or disposition when public. For the full criminal case file, use the court record rather than the driver-history record. More serious or felony-level DWI matters belong with Grant County criminal court records.
Commercial drivers should treat traffic citations with care because points, convictions, and license consequences may be reported to MVD. Research did not locate Grant County-specific CDL diversion, deferred adjudication, or defensive-driving rules. The safer path is to contact the court named on the citation before paying, especially where a plea or payment may act as a conviction or no-contest resolution.
New Mexico expungement law may allow some nonconviction or conviction records to be petitioned after statutory waiting periods, but DWI/DUI is listed among excluded conviction categories in the research. Juvenile records, sealed records, and protected identifiers follow separate limits. A traffic case may be visible in court records while driver-history consequences are handled through MVD.
Grant County Traffic Access Limits
New Mexico public access law allows inspection of public records unless an exception applies, but online court access is tiered and redacted. The Sheriff's Office or a municipal police department may have law-enforcement records. The detention center may have booking records if the citation led to custody. The state does not require any one portal to merge all of those records into one public file.
